The South Rwenzori Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku has asked the management of Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) to engage the church in sensitizing the community about the dangers of poaching.
The Prelate sounded the remarks on Sunday evening while addressing some Christians who had gathered at the headquarters of Bwera Archdeaconry to witness the ground-breaking ceremony of the new church building.
The Bishop, who delivered his message to the Executive Director of UWA through the Senior Warden in-charge of Rwenzori Mountains National Park, who was the Chief Guest at the function, said poaching remains a big challenge to some isolated communities.
The Man of God noted that the number of orphans and widows had been left behind in some communities because of poaching, asking UWA to involve the church in an attempt to mitigate the challenge.
He also added that the church always plays a pivotal role in mediating many conflicts than using force which sometimes causes harm than good.
He expressed his gratitude to UWA for allowing some Christian groups to place their beehives within the premises of the park, something he said helps them to generate income.
