Revamping Kilembe Mines a blessing to the people of Kasese and Rwenzori sub region, says Minister

The Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance has described the revamping of Kilembe Mines as a blessing to the residents of Kasese district and the entire Rwenzori sub-region.

On October 02, 2024, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon Ruth Nankabirwa, announced the long-awaited redevelopment of Kilembe Mines, saying government was in her final stages to announce the selected contractor by November 01, this year.

Now, Minister Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime, says the redevelopment of Kilembe Mines would come a long with many opportunities including reclaiming the lost glory of Kilembe Mines Hospital and regular de-silting of River Nyamwamba Water  Channel as well as giving jobs to over 5,000 people.

He also reveals that government has advertised the construction works of Kikorongo – Bwera road.

According to him, President Museveni is also looking forward to having a Standard Gauge Railway Line extended to Kasese and the construction of an International Airport in the district to facilitate the smooth running of Kilembe Mines.

Kabbyanga thus calls on the residents to position themselves strategically through establishing some income generating businesses, adding that once the project commences, money would be in circulation to boost the economy.
