Residents of Umoja Cell in Nyakasanga I Ward, Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality have decried the lack of social services in their area.
The residents, who claim to be living in almost the peripheral of the urban centre, argue that they hardly access safe water, healthcare and good infrastructural services within their reach.
Yesterday morning, the residents explained their challenges to one of the candidates who are seeking election for the position of Kasese Municipality Member of Parliament, Francis Mugisa Kithulha.
They observed the need to be considered when it comes to the distribution of government services.
Ms Joselyne Masika, one of the residents says the are is underserved in terms of educational services since their children trek long distances in search of secondary education, hence leading to school dropouts especially among the girl-children.
Sadayo Kitahire, another resident, encourages the voters to select leaders who are able to lobby for the services that would be extended to the people in a balanced manner.
In his response, Kithulha said the challenges reported to him were easy to be resolved, asking the residents to vote for him so that he goes to the Parliament to present their voices, wants and demands.
According to him, the area was also facing a challenge of land encroachment, insecurity, poor waste management and the alleged lack of empowerment programs to the vulnerable groups of people including widows, widowers and single mothers, pledging to make them a priority once elected into the 12th Parliament of Uganda.
