The police in Bugoye sub-county, Kasese district are investigating circumstances under which a six- moths- old minor lost her life following the wounds that she sustained in a fire that gutted their house.
The revelation was made today morning by the Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime while addressing the press at Kasese Central Police Spokesperson.
According to Tumushime, it is alleged that the minor’s mother left a burning candle inside the house to go and buy food stuffs at nearby trading centre but on return, she found the minor having already been burnt.
Tumushime revealed that a case of rush and neglect had been registered and thorough investigations into the matter had been launched.
In a related development, the police in the Rwenzori East Policing Region have encouraged the business community dealing in highly flammable substances to consider putting in place firefighting equipment.
SP Nelson Tumushime, the Regional Mouthpiece told the press that several cases of fire outbreaks were registered last week.
According to him, one of the cases occurred in Kambukamabwe II Ward in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Town Council leaving a produce store with two milling machines severely burnt and other assortments of property lost. He revealed that preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was as a result of short circuit.
He encouraged the people who trade in highly flammable substances to secure fire extinguishers.
