Land victims forcefully re-occupy 47.67 acres in Kirembe Ward, Kasese Municipality

Land victims in Kirembe Cell of the Central Division in Kasese Municipality have forcefully re-occupied the 47.67 acres of disputed land between Western Uganda Importers and Distributors Company Limited and Nyakatonzi Growers’ Cooperative Union Limited.

The two companies claim ownership of the said piece of land. It is reported that Nyakatonzi Growers’ Cooperative Union Limited claims ownership of 17.5 acres while Western Importers and Distributors Company Limited claims ownership of the remining acres. 

The land victims led by their Chairperson, Johnson Bwambale also claim ownership of the same piece of land.

But Bwambale told the press that on Monday, they decided to reoccupy the said disputed acres of land claiming that they had received authority from the Anti-corrution Unit.

Bwambale who spoke to the press on behalf of his fellow victims said they needed protection from the security operatives, asking them not to disrupt the occupants.

Mr. Nason Muhiwa, the Chieftain for Kirembe Cell supports the land victims, stating that the two companies that are claiming ownership of the said acres of land on baseless grounds. According to him, the disputed him belongs to the residents.

However, when contacted on phone, the Kasese Resident District Commissioner, Lt. Joe Walusimbi disagreed with the land victims.

According to him, there was evidence indicating that the said piece of land belongs to Western Uganda Importers and Distributors Company Limited and Nyakatonzi Growers Cooperative Union Limited.

According to Lt. Walusimbi, all relevant offices have ruled in favour of the two companies.
