Kasese to experience heavy rains this month, UNMA has warned

BY JOACKIM KULE

The Uganda National Metrological Authority (UNMA) has warned that Kasese district and the entire Western region will receive above normal rains in the remaining weeks of March and the beginning of April this year.

A notice issued by UNMA to the District Disaster Management Committee indicates that Kasese among other districts in the region is likely to receive heavy rains with hailstones, windstorm, lightning and thunder.

The notice also reveals that the anticipated rains would cause landslides, floods, soil erosion, blow housing roofs and come along with some pests and diseases to crops.

Mr. Joseph Singoma, the Kasese District Senior Planner who also doubles as the Secretary to the Disaster Management Committee conquers with the notice from UNMA saying that since the beginning of the month of March, some catastrophic incidents have been happening especially in Busongora County South and North where a number of houses and crop gardens have been destroyed in the sub-counties of Rukooki and Buhuhira respectively.

He advises the Sub-county Chiefs in the disaster prone areas of Mbunga, Kilembe, Nyakabingo, Kitholhu and Mahango among others to sensitize the masses about the possible preventive measures of the negative effects of the anticipated rains.

The Senior Planner says the same notice indicates that the rains would however be of an economic importance to the farmers.
