The Kasese District Member of Parliament -elect, Sarah Ithungu Masereka Baleke (Mrs.) has said the government needs to develop some infrastructures within the district in order to boost the tourism sector.
Mrs. Baleke says if the government develops roads within both the Queen Elizabeth National Park and the Rwenzori Mountains National Park, the district would greatly develop and the Ugandan economy would be boosted.
She sounded the remarks over the weekend while addressing President Museveni in Kyangwanzi. According to her, boosting the tourism sector would also help to create employment for the youth.
She also asked the government to expedite the process of constructing Kasese Airfield to facilitate cross-border trade between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Bukonzo County East Member of Parliament -elect, Dr. Julius Monday Bwambale Rude, said there was need for the government to continuously supply free coffee seedlings to the residents in order to ensure sustainable coffee productivity.
However, the incoming legislator reminded the government that the suppliers of the 2019 – 2021 periods free coffee seedlings, mainly Nursery Coffee Operators have not been paid and asked the government to resettle them.
In his presentation, the MP-elect highlighted a challenge that facing Bukonzo Joint Cooperative Society Limited, a community-based organization involved in coffee production and value addition. According to Dr. Rude, a tax waiver and recapitalization to be accorded to the organization so that it recovers from its current state.
Following their remarks, the formers Leader of Opposition, Rt. Hon. Winfred Kiiza Nyabahasa who also doubles as the former Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament, has congratulated the newly elected leaders on her social media handles for having stood up boldly in the retreat to present the issues of Kasese.
