The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kasese District today morning convened a conference targeting the newly elected leaders on the party ticket.
The conference was aimed inducting them about their roles to defend the rights of the people through passing resolutions that favour the majority.
The conference which was held at SK Gardens in Kasese Town targeted the elected leaders on the positions of District Councillors, Parish/Ward Councillors, L. C III Chairpersons and Mayor.
Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the Kasese FDC Chairperson explained that during the conference, they taught the participants about the conduct of various council sittings and conduct of council businesses as well as reminding them of the party’s agenda towards developing Kasese.
He stressed that despite having few opposition members in various local and lower local government councils in the district, those who succeeded should be able to defend the interests of the local people by passing resolutions in their favour as low-income earners.
Kabuku also disclosed that the party was still strong despite the wave that trigged them during the recently concluded General Elections.
According to him, the forthcoming village elections would be another footstep for the 2031 elections because they will have swept away all the village positions.
Some of the participants including Anna Kabugho, the District Woman Councillor -elect representing Kithoma-Kanyatsi Town Council and Karambi sub-county, hailed the party for assembling them before swearing in.
Kabugho appealed to the party members to iron out some of the issues that caused many of them to lose in the recent elections in an attempt to reclaim their lost glory in the forthcoming elections.
Justus Asaba Bwambale, who will lead a council of 17 councilors who hail from the ruling NRM party in Buhuhira sub-county, pledged to ensure accountability and transparency in handling public funds.
