The leadership of Kasese District Local Government has revealed its commitment towards enforcing the government’s directive warning the administrators of schools against teaching the learners during the official holiday break.
The leadership argues that the holiday break should strictly be maintained for the teachers and learners to rest, engage in non-academic activities and refresh their brains.
The commitment of the district leadership is in line with the Ministry of Education and Sports’ directive that was issued late last month to the Resident District Commissioners, Resident City Commissioners, Chief Administrative Officers, District Police Commanders and Town Clerks to actively enforce the policy by arresting school administrators or teachers found violating the order.
The outgoing Kasese District Vice Chairperson, Jerevesious Monday Bwambale, says they will abide by the directive and have the violators apprehended.
According to Bwambale, teaching in the holidays deprives the learners of their right not only torest but also associate with the community members, refreshing their minds from academic activities and acquiring life skills.
Bwambale who also doubles as the outgoing Secretary for Social Services, also appeals to the parents and guardians to exercise good parenting skills that are associated with limiting the unnecessary movements of their children.
He advises that they should instead assign them reliable tasks including sweeping, cleaning, weaving and crafting so that they keep their minds busy.
He also discourages the parents from granting children access to digital machines that show pornographic literature, arguing that it has the potential to negatively affect their morality.
