Kasese District lacks sufficient staff in the Production department

BY JOACKIM KULE

The Kasese District Production Department has decried the challenge of insufficient staff that frustrates the effectiveness of service delivery to the farmers.

The District Principal Agricultural Officer, Julius Rukara, says the department does not have enough personnel to effectively attend to the farmers, hence leaving most of them unattended to in the due process.

Rukara for instance singles out the number of veterinary officers which according to him is not enough, prompting the department to deploy one person in more than two lower local governments.

He also points out the limited number of the fisheries and entomology officers in the local government.

The Kasese District Production Officer, Julius Baluku, argues that amidst the insufficient personnel, they do not have sufficient means of transport for the extension workers.

However, the residents especially those from the cattle grazing areas including Nyakatonzi, Kinyamaseke and Kitswamba, acknowledge that the few staff who are deployed in their lower local governments are playing a vital role in terms of supporting the farmers.

The Minister of Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, who was recently in the district, advised that the department needs to submit the complaint in the line ministry for discussion and onward consideration.
