The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kasese, the Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira has challenged the citizens to employ sustainable waste management approaches in order to curtail the dangers of global warming and general health risks associated with environmental degradation.
The Prelate sounded the challenge today afternoon while addressing the stakeholders of Caritas Uganda during their Joint Livelihood and Inclusive Microfinance Project Evaluation Meeting that was held at Uhuru 50 Gardens in Kasese town.
Bishop Kibira underscored the need for5 properdisposal and recycling of plastic bottles which according to him, degrade the productivity of soil yet land is the mother of all resources and lives.
The Man of God also used the same platform to implore the men to be mindful of their health through embracing regular screening of their bodies so that they are able to detect a number of ailments including prostate cancer and immediate deal with them.
However, Rev. Fr. Denis Ocanda, the Assistant National Director for Caritas Uganda and Rev. Fr. Anyasio Mbusa, the Director for Caritas Kasese told the press that Livelihood and Inclusive Microfinance Project with sponsorship from Conrad Helton Foundation and implemented by Caritas Uganda had registered success in its three -year tenure.
The project is being implemented in two Dioceses of Kasese and Kabale with over 1800 beneficiary households and with hopes of extending the same to Kotido Diocese.
Some of the beneficiaries testified that the project had empowered them to provide for their families as well as fighting cases of domestic violence.
