Dr. Edward Wefula, an Orthopedic Surgeon has today officially assumed the office of the Medical Superintendent at Rukoki General Hospital in Kasese Municipality.
Dr. Wefula has replaced Dr. Abraham Masereka who was the in-charge by the time the facility was at the level of a Health Centre IV.
Situated on 24 acres of land, the facility started its official operations as a hospital on July 01 this year with 100 staff.
In his handover report to the Medical Officer, Dr. Masereka who noted that the facility started offering the services of a health centre IV in 2019, revealed that it serves the catchment area of 45,000 people, who come from Kasese, Bunyangabu and Rubirizi districts.
Dr. Masereka indicated that during his tenure, they were able to secure an ambulance, an enhanced credit line, mobile x-ray and other machines, renovated the maternity and theatre wards among others.
While receiving the instruments of power, Dr. Wefula pledged to work with all the staff and the local government leaders in ensuring the delivery of medical services as prescribed in his posting letter.
The Kasese District Health Officer, Dr. Amon Bwambale was happy that within the same financial year, other facilities including Nyabirongo and Kabingo were also upgraded.
He appealed to the staff members to work with the newly posted Medical Superintendent for effective service delivery to the population.
Mr. Lukas Buhaka, the Health Management Committee Chairperson lauded the government for elevating the facility to a level of extending advanced health services to the people.
He encouraged the workers to employ good communication skills while serving the patients and talking to the entire community members for the sustainability of the health facility.
