Church opens a community health centre, curtails expectant mothers from trekking long distances for antenatal care

Expectant mothers from Isango Cell in Kanyatsi- Kithoma Town Council, Kasese district have got a reason to smile after they witnessed the opening of South Rwenzori Diocese Paddy Kabagambe Memorial Community Health Centre- Isango.

Yesterday, the Kitholhu Archdeacon, Ven. Wilson Baluku Mulengya officiated at the function hardly a year after the health facility was donated to South Rwenzori Diocese by the family of the Late Paddy Kabagambe in recognition of his hard work and commitment to the church activities.

Mrs. Yerusi Masereka happily says that the health facility will help the expectant mothers to access antenatal care services within their vicinity.

According to her, some of the expectant mothers would deliver their babies within the way of trekking long searching for antenatal care services to would be nearby health centres, located a good kilometers away from the area.

To her disappointment, other expectant mothers would sometimes seek the services of the Traditional Birth Attendants after failing to get money to transport them to the health facilities.

Mr. Robert Mutupa, the Isango Cell Chairperson says the nearby health facility that is government owned does not work during weekends.

This, according to him would become a problem to the residents whenever they fall sick. He is now happy that the church has officially come to their rescue through opening South Rwenzori Diocese Paddy Kabagambe Memorial Community Health Centre – Isango.

Mr. Mulhimulhwa Masereka, the leader of the Village Health Teams (VHTs) in Isango Cell pledged that he would support the health facility through lobbying drugs from other facilities for the benefit of the community members.
