The Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku has challenged political leaders to make an affirmative action through lobbying for a special consideration of constructing durable and sustainable roads in the mountainous areas.
The Prelate sounded the remarks yesterday while addressing the congregation that had thronged St. Peter’s Kibalya Church of Uganda Parish in Mahango Archdeaconry.
The Bishop observed that there was need for phased tarmacking of roads in mountainous areas as opposed to the frequent marraming that is swept away by heavy rains hence causing losses to the government.
The Man of God challenged the leadership of Nyakabingo sub-county to prioritize the maintenance of community access roads through clearing the bushy and impassable roads in a bid enable the Diocesan established Child Development Centre (CDC) easily accessible.
Mr. Charles Thembo Kahitson, the Nyakabingo Sub- County Chairperson observed the need for the residents to resume communal works as a way of temporarily maintaining the existing roads.
However, Mr. Stephen Muthekengwa, one of the people seeking the NRM flag for the position of Nyakabingo Sub-County Chairperson told Messiah Radio that once entrusted with the leadership role, he would lobby for funds from the district to have the existing roads maintained.
