Mr. Zepher Mubingwa, the Kasese Deputy RDC in-charge of Busongora County has challenged the residents across the district to productively use the grants and other forms of support given to them by government to sustain their livelihoods.
The Deputy RDC sounded the today morning while officiating at the disbursement exercise of shillings 12 million, a grant that was given to the groups of older persons aged between 60 -79 in Kasese Municipality. The function was held at the Central Division Council Hall.
The money was given to three groups including Kirembe –Kyababinga Elderly Farmers’ Group, Kemihoko Elderly Farmers’ Group and Base Camp Lower Elderly Farmers’ Group.
The money under the Special Enterprise Grant for Older Persons (SEGOP) that was given under the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development was aimed at supporting the activities of the older people so that they live healthier and decent lives.
Mr. Mubingwa explained that if the population uses the grants and loans given to them under the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program, Youth Livelihood, Parish Development Model and Emyooga among others, they can realize improved and sustained livelihoods.
The Kasese Municipality Deputy Town Clerk, Mr. Zedekiya Kambasu Kayiri urged the beneficiaries to be exemplary and role models in effectively implementing government programs.
He, however, tipped them on the need to help government in fighting against the vice of corruption that has affected the implementation of government projects.
