Alliance for Children and Youth (Uganda), a Civil Society Organization based in Kasese district has donated an assortment of food and non food relief items to the landslide victims currently encamped at Nyambuku Primary School in Ibanda-Kyanya Town Council, Busongora County North in Kasese district.
On May 04, a heavy downpour befell most parts of Kasese district, causing landslides and floods that displaced many people among them 442 from 83 households currently staying in Nyambuku Primary School.
Yesterday, a delegation from Alliance for Children and Youth led by Joviah Kabugho, the Organization’s Director visited the victims and delivered the relief items including cassava flour, maize flour, beans, ground nuts, soap, saucepans, tapelines, basins, jerry cans, clothes and books, mathematical sets and pens among others for school going children.
While handing the donation to the beneficiaries, Ms Kabugho who sympathized with the victims asked them to stay calm, adding that God was in control of their lives, adding that they however mind about their hygiene.
She told them that under their umbrella Codenamed “Western Uganda Humanitarian Platform” that coordinates civil society organizations which provide emergency responses to the citizens, they secured funding from Oxfam.
She, however, encouraged the beneficiaries to utilize the donation properly and also engage in productive works on their remaining pieces of land.
Ms Catherine Nakasinde, the Chairperson for the Western Uganda Humanitarian Platform advised the people in the camp to prioritize good parenting especially for the girl children so that they are not affected by early marriages and teenage pregnancies.
Johnson Kule Kingora, the Chairperson Local Council I for Nyambuku Cell in Kyanya Ward, revealed to the donors that the life in which the affected people are living is not good because of the poor structures at the camp coupled with economic hardships.
According to him, of the 442 people in the camp, 86 are children, 29 are pregnant, 40 are living with disabilities, 32 are breastfeeding mothers while 21 are elderly men and 19 are elderly women.
Pr. Paul Bwambale Mughunza, the Camp Chairperson commended the government of Uganda for putting in place an environment that enables civil society organizations to work with the people who are in dire need.
A section of beneficiaries commended the donors for the support and pledged to properly utilize the donation for the purpose for which it was meant.
