Teachers urged to offer quality education to learners

Teachers and parents in Kasese District have been urged to effectively play their respective roles if their children are to obtain a decent education.

The message was sounded today by Hon. Mugisha Gad, the District Councillor representing Kitswamba Sub-county, during an exclusive interview with our reporter in Kasese town.

Hon Mugisha argued that many parents have abdicated their parental responsibility and expect government to do the basics including buying text books and other scholarship materials to their children.

He also appealed to teachers to refrain from absenteeism and to effectively execute their role explaining that in some cases teachers have also been responsible for the poor performance of learners because of failure to complete the syllabus.

He committed to continue monitoring government schools to ensure that teachers are doing the job well and that the schools provide a conducive teaching and learning environment.

Hon Mugisha also cautioned school head teachers against inflating the school enrollment in order to receive an increased capitation grant. Ends.
