Mr. Saulo Maate, the Forum for Democratic Change Commissioner in-charge of the Rwenzori Sub-region has observed need for government to put aside some funds meant to facilitate the dissemination of information related to disaster mitigation measures to the population in the region.
Maate, who was today addressing the press at the Kasese Branch FDC Offices, argued that some people not only in Kasese district but also the entire sub-region have continuously been hit by disasters due to lack of the necessary information by the District Disaster Management Committees that he claimed are not fully facilitated.
He therefore suggested to both Central and Local Governments to budget for the disasters so that more of information sharing and sensitization are done through the different media platforms.
Maate, who used the same platform to send his condolences to the families that lost their relatives over the weekend both in Kasese district and the neighbouring Bunyangabu district, observed need for the residents especially those living in disaster prone areas to shift to safer places until the end of the month of May which he said is anticipated to be associated with above normal rains.
He appealed to the religious leaders and other trained personnel to offer psychosocial support to the families that have lost their beloved ones.
