In an attempt to reduce the ever-increasing cases of Gender Based Violence in Kasese district, Kasese Rising Stars Youth Foundation Limited, a charity based organization working in the district has come on board to address, raise and amplify the voices against the vice.
Gender Based Violence is a form of violence that is directed against a person because of their gender and affects persons of a particular gender disproportionately.
It includes sexual, physical, mental and economic harm inflicted in public or in private places. It also includes threats of violence, coercion and manipulation. This can take many forms such as intimate partner violence, sexual violence, child marriage and female genital mutilation among others.
The recently released statistics ranked Kasese district in the 3rd position countrywide in registering cases related to Gender Based Violence after Wakiso and Kampala with the first youngest Ugandan grandmother at the age of 24 compared to the national prevalence of about 25%.
The same findings also indicated that physical violence is the highest in Hima Town Council at a rate of 34% while sexual violence is also the highest in Maliba Sub-county at 38% whereas child marriages are high in Bwesumbu sub-county at a rate of 10%.
Hima Town Council also stands at 56% when it comes to the use of contraceptives while Munkunyu sub-county leads in the cases of incest followed by Kyondo, Nyakiyumbu and Kisinga sub-counties.
It is against the above background that Kasese Rising Stars Youth Foundation Limited has been forced to join the fight against the vice.
Mr. Rabson Kule, the Chief Executive Officer for Rising Stars Youth Foundation Limited says following the reports, his organization has started the campaign of sensitizing the masses about the dangers of sexual and Gender Based Violence and domestic violence among others.
Kule, a single orphan and a native of Kamahanga village in Kisinga sub-county, says despite focusing on issues related to Gender Based Violence, his organization will also empower the youth and children with skills that can change the quality of lives of people through poverty eradication, nature conservation and preservation as well as the spiritual uprightness in the power of the Almighty God.
