The Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Sarah Ithungu Masereka Baleke, has tasked the government to pronounce her stand about the construction of the Rwenzururu Kingdom palace.
In November 26 and 27, 2016, a joint security operation of the Uganda Police and the Uganda People’s Defense Forces, raided the Rwenzururu Kingdom Buhikira Royal Palace in Kasese town, leaving scores of people dead and the subsequent arrest of Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma and a section of his Royal Guards.
After close to seven years of detention, the government granted amnesty to the Omusinga and the Royal Guards he was arrest with and subsequently pledged to construct a new palace for the King.
Presenting before the floor of Parliament today afternoon, Hon. Sarah Ithungu Masereka Baleke, reported to the August House that despite the government’s pledge to construct the palace and up to now in vain, the Kingdom still rents for the King because his palace was destroyed.
Following the incident, the Kingdom has since laid a strategy of constructing the palace.
In her submission on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Sarah Ithungu Masereka Baleke, invited other legislators to join the Kingdom subjects on November 14 for the Omusinga Birthday Run and the 60th Coronation Anniversary of Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma where the Kingdom is expected to collect money to build the palace.
In his response to the concern, the Speaker of the 12th Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth, and other legislators conquered with Hon. Ithungu.
