River Nyamwamba has once again burst its banks and flooded into the communities causing a lot of panic within parts of Kasese Municipality.
The most affected areas included Kisanga in Nyakasanga III Ward and Saluti A and Saluti B cells in Kanyangeya ward of Nyamwamba Division, especially people hailing along the Kamulikwizi drainage channel.
Jacob Tibamanya Masereka Saluti LC1 Chairperson said some people temporarily fled their homes in fear of the disastrous river especially those adjacent the Kamulikwizi drainage channel.
Tibamanya also appealed to persons who stay in disaster prone areas to seek temporary refuge in safer places before urging government to also expedite the process to fully upgrade the channel into a modern drainage system.
Tibamanya also guided schools within his area especially those along the Kamulikwizi drainage channel where Nyamwamba floods divert as an alternative route, to take extra care of the learners by monitoring their various movements.
Michael Kyaboona a resident at Kamulikwizi in Saluti A whose house was affected by the flooding water stressed the need for government to put in place a measure to permanently deal with the flooding river Nyamwamba.
Scovia Muhindo, the Chairperson LC2 Kanyangeya ward, shared similar sentiments arguing that flooding of River Nyamwamba ought to be dealt with once and for all.
