The Kasese Deputy Resident District Commissioner in-charge of Bukonzo County has charged village and parish chairpersons with the responsibility of ensuring that they mobilize, monitor and oversee the implementation of government programs in their respective localities.
Lt. (Rtd) Maate Magwara sounded the remarks yesterday during the induction of the new LCs and the leaders of the Parish Development Model Saccos of Kithoma -Kanyatsi Town Council in Bukonzo County West, a function that was held at Kanyatsi Primary School.
Magwara indicated that the local leaders at the village levels are entitled for mobilizing the people and ensuring that they embrace programs that are meant for alleviating poverty from their communities.
Magwara emphasized the Parish Development Model, which he said caries all the programs meant to enable the people to transform from subsistence economy to the money economy.
According to Magwara, any village leader who might not be willing to monitor and supervise government programs including the Parish Development Model which is at their discretion in the communities should resign before they are held responsible for its failure.
He also told them to explain all the seven pillars of the Parish Model which include production processing, marketing, infrastructure, financial mechanism, social services and mindset change among others so that the people should learn about them and apply them.
The President’s Representative used the same podium to encourage the local leaders to form by-laws aimed at forcing the people to embrace hard work especially through engaging in extensive agriculture of both livestock, poultry keeping and growing cash and food crops.
Kithoma Kanyatsi Town Council Chairperson, Milton Kule Mbwarara, however asked the government to focus on improving the healthcare systems in the area, noting that most of the communities find it hard to access them because their facilities are not equipped.
