Kasese: Nine arrested on allegations thefts

Kasese Central Police Station is holding nine persons suspected to have been involved in acts of pickpocketing and burglary within the outskirts of Kasese town.

ASP Elly Maate, the Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, says the suspects were arrested last night after police mounted intelligence-led operations in the areas of Acholi quarters, Nyamwamba west cell, Nyakasanga 2 Ward, Nyamwamba Division, of Kasese Municipality.

Maate identified the suspects as Muhindo Derick, Muhindo Lindi, Mumbere Wilson, Baluku Silver, Amanyire Anold, all residents of Nyamwamba West.

The others are Masereka Gaste, Kiiza Karukasi, and Mumbere Joel who are residents of Kyondo Cell in Scheme ward while Godwin Bwambale is a resident of Kizungu Cell.

According to Maate, several items suspected to have been stolen have since been recovered including 03 Television sets, 40 maroon iron sheets, two laptops, an extracted window, weighing and other minor electronic gadgets.

The above suspects were charged on holding charges of being in possession of Narcotic drugs, Possession of suspected stolen property pending further screening and investigations.

The police mouthpiece added that the continuous operations in the municipality, intend to disband the regrouping gangs and subsequently reduce the rate of crime within the community.

He has now appealed to any persons who could have lost property in the hands of these suspected criminals to visit the central police station in Kasese town to identify their items. ENDS
