Sheema RDC cautions Kasese residents against Sanga Meat

Authorities in Sheema District have written to the leadership in Kasese district informing them of the need to stop the importation of Sanga Meat over health-related concerns.

Sheema Resident District Commissioner, Jane Asiimwe Muhindo, in a letter dated July 14, 2026 and addressed to Kasese Resident District Commissioner, a copy of which Messiah Radio has seen, explains that there is a reported outbreak of anthrax in Sheema district, which is also in western Uganda.

Ms Asiimwe said she was aware that some people in Kasese consume Sanga meat which she said exposes them to the risk of contracting anthrax and thus invited the president’s office in Kasese to embark on a more proactive move aimed at protecting people from such a disease.

Anthrax is a serious, often fatal infectious disease caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. People typically contract it through contact with infected animals or contaminated animal products such as meat, wool, or hides.

According to Asiimwe, so far have people have succumbed to the disease in Sheema while several others are receiving treatment at the health facilities in the district. ENDS.
