BY OBED KITHENDE

Vendors at Nyakasanga-Habitat Market in Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, have raised concerns over poor sanitation, noting that the community around the market relies on only one latrine, which is also in a dire condition.

They raised the issue last evening during an interaction with municipal officials who visited the facility in preparation for the renovation of the market facility.

Residents and traders around the market argue that the poor sanitation therearound has potential to cause the spread of diseases.

Officials from Kasese Municipality have noted the health concerns raised by the community, although they were quick to add that the Nyakasanga-Habitat Market is set to be renovated to resume full functionality and also address any sanitation gaps.

Mr. Bulemu Alex Syathamira, Senior Financial Officer for Kasese Municipality, explained that the municipal authorities are working hard to ensure renovation works commence at the market.

Meanwhile, Mr. Pimako Kasereka, the LCIII Chairperson for Nyamwamba Division, called for calm, indicating that the government is ready to renovate the market to restore its operations.

He, however, also urged persons who own houses adjacent to the designated market facility to build decent washrooms so as to enhance the sanitation in the neighbourhood of the market. \
