Diocese of Kasese seeks 4.5 billion for 2026 Uganda Martyrs’ Day

The Catholic Diocese of Kasese is still seeking more than shillings 4.2 billion to facilitate the activities of the 2026 Uganda Martyrs’ Day celebrations which the diocese will animate at Namugongo this year.

The diocese will be animating the highly anticipated celebration for the second time having animated its inaugural celebration over twenty years ago.

This year’s celebration under the theme Christ is alive in you, and me” is expected to draw several pilgrims from not only Kasese but also from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC.

Now, during the launch of the preparatory activities specifically for the parishes including Kakone, Kitabu, Ibanda, Kitswamba, Katwe, Kasese, and Kidodo, Rev. Fr. John Baptist Kule, the Chairperson Organizing Committee revealed that only a paltry 250 million shillings, out of the 4.5 billion shillings needed had been raised.

He observed that this is an indicator that the journey ahead remains insurmountable adding that the diocese continues to bank on the generosity of all institutions and people of Kasese and beyond to realize the budget. 

He appealed for financial support from all persons explaining that all contributions are so welcome no matter how small they’re. 

Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibiira, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kasese explained that they want the pilgrimage to Namugongo change the face of the district where the world will appreciate further the beauty of Kasese.

The Bishop reassured the people that all the funds to be collected would be used for the appropriate purpose. 

The prelate explained transparency and accountability to the public are core principles that inform the implementation of projects within the Catholic Church.

He told the Christians to prepare for the pilgrimage through making confessions, reconciling with their fellows and seeking God’s favor. 

 Hon. Benjamin Buturo Cadet, the Member of Parliament –elect for Bunyaruguru Constituency in Rubirizi District who officiated at the fundraising, pledged total support to the diocesan activities including the cathedral construction.

He called on the people to support the bishop because the resources needed are very enormous.

A total of 60 million shillings was realized during the Sunday’s fundraising ceremony held at Kasese Cathedral Parish in Kasese town.
