Karambi sub-county leadership in Kasese district skeptical of food insecurity among the residents

BY JOACKIM KULE MUHESI

The leadership of Karambi sub-county, Bukonzo County West in Kasese district has anticipated acute food insecurity among the population following the prevalence of the Banana Bacteria Wilt disease that has eaten up a number of plantations.

The Sub- County Chairperson, Paddy Muhindo, says that nearly 80% of the farmers have been affected by the disease.

Muhindo says crop production has been hindered and brought to a standstill hence exposing the residents to the risks of poverty and food insecurity because the disease continues spreading to the neighboring communities.

He is also worried that yet another unidentified weed that destroys avocado plants has been sighted in the area.

The Sub- County Boss also decries the challenge of hailstorms that affect other crops varieties and animals.

Muhindo calls for the intervention of the technical persons to sensitize the farmers about the management of such diseases in order to curtail their further spread.
