The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has confirmed that the stray lions from the Queen Elizabeth National Park which recently invaded some communities in Kasese district have been safely directed back to the protected area.
The said lions which had been terrorizing the communities for almost three weeks, on Friday September 26, at around 3:00am raised the kraal of Paul Rusanganwa, a 60- year-old cattle keeper and resident of Kyondo Cell in Scheme Ward, leaving three cows dead.
Since that day, the lions have been traversing Kasese Municipality and the neighboring areas, leaving people in fear for their lives.
Bashir Hanji, the Public Relations Officer for UWA, has confirmed to the media that the lions were successfully directed back to the protected area.
Mr. Hanji commended the efforts of the UWA rangers in managing the human-wildlife conflicts and ensuring public safety. He also applauded the community members for having worked closely with the security operatives through sharing information regarding the whereabouts of the stary lions.
However, Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the Kasese District FDC party Chairperson, who asked UWA to always monitor and watch of the wild animals, noted that whenever such wild beasts cross into the communities, they should be swiftly followed to avoid causing fear among the community members.
