Gov’t to work on Mahango Water Project

BY OBED KULE KITHENDE

The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment has agreed to work on the Mahango Water Project to address the challenge of lack of safe and clean water in the lower local government.

Mahango sub-county in Bukonzo County East in among the 44 lower local governments in Kasese district.

The development was revealed by the area Member of Parliament Hon. Harold Tony Muhindo while addressing a community meeting that was held in Kyamuduma II village, Lhuhiri Parish.

The legislator who did not reveal the amount of money that government will inject into the project during its implementation, also pledged that his office would for the meantime repair the already existing water springs and boreholes in the sub-county as the residents wait for the government to embark on the construction works of the project.

His pledge followed a concern raised by the residents indicating that they trek long distances to collect water from what would be nearby water sources.

He also promised to contribute fuel to work on the roads in the area after being told by the residents that they were in a sorry state, limiting them to transport their agricultural produce to the market centres.

Some of the residents including Morris Kihangwa and Sipiriano Muhindo had reported to the legislator a challenge related to their wives trekking long distances in search of water from the contaminated running rivers.

Edson Kanaga, a hopeful for the Sub- County Chairpersonship conquered with the residents, arguing that the lower local government was underserved in terms of social services compared to the population.
