The Elections Management Committee (EMC) of the National Unity Platform has released names of candidates who went through the party vetting exercise for the positions of councillors in Kasese District.
NUP held the party vetting exercise for the lower local governments’ positions including L. C III positions, District and Municipal Councillors, Ward and Parish Councillors last month on August 09.
The Party’s Elections Management Committee National Vice Chairperson, Dr. Ivan Ssempijja, who officiated at the vetting process, noted that they only declared those who were unopposed while the aspiring candidates who were more than one on a single position were taken through interviews and assessments to prove their worthiness.
Speaking to the press today morning, Mr. Charles Kule Kabwemi, the Kasese district Registrar for NUP, revealed that they had received names of the candidates who were successfully handed the party flags for the lower local government positions.
According to him, the party has given her flag to Mr. Doviko Kiribwa who was competing with Moses Kanyonyi for the position of Municipal Councillor representing Nyakasanga II Ward and Alfred Bwambale for the District Councillor representing Kyondo Sub- County who was competing with Leus Bwambale.
Kabwemi stressed that the party was still organizing for the vetting exercise for the parliamentary hopefuls with the exercise expected to take place on September 15 and 16.
The aspirants to go through interviews and assessments include Jackson Mbaju Kathika and Isaac Njiwenewene for Busongora County South, Robert Muthoma and Sam Baluku for Kasese Municipality, Shahid Thahakaba and a one Yambuka for Bukonzo County West while Bukonzo County East and Busongora Cunty North have unopposed candidates including Cleus Bwambale and Joneni Bwambale Bamwenda respectively.
