Representatives of land victims in Kasese support residents of Kirembe for re-occupying 47.7 acres of land

BY ABDALA MASEREKA

Representatives of the land victims encamped at the Kasese Resident District Commissioner’s Office in Kasese town have backed the Kirembe residents who have announced the re-occupation of the 47.67 acres of the disputed land between Western Uganda Importers and Distributors Company Limited and Nyakatonzi Growers’ Cooperative Union Limited.

Through their Chairperson, Ms Grace Biira, the land victims wondered why the RDC, Lt. Joe Walusimbi had interested himself in a case of land where he is not party to.

According to Biira, the RDC who claims has evidence indicating that the said piece of land belongs to the two mentioned companies has turned himself their spokesperson yet he is supposed to play a neutral role and harmonizing the parties involved.

On Wednesday, the RDC was quoted saying all the relevant offices had ruled in favour of Western Uganda Importers and Distributors Company Limited and Nyakatonzi Growers’ Cooperative Union Limited.

His statement did not go well with Biira and other affected persons.

Addressing the press yesterday morning, Biira refuted the RDC’s claims and encouraged the residents of Kirembe to go ahead with reoccupying the said piece of land claiming that they had been authorized by the Anti-corrution Unit.

Biira appealed to whoever claims ownership of the contested piece of land to petition the courts of law and provide evidence.
