Kasese police decry a surge in domestic violence

BY JOACKIM KULE MUHESI

The police in Kasese district have revealed that they are overwhelmed by the increasing number of Gender Based Violence cases in some families across the district.

The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime says almost all the four divisions including Katwe, Bwera Hima and Kasese that form the region have registered similar challenges hence posing a threat to the people’s livelihoods and child upbringing.

The Regional Police Mouthpiece made the revelation today afternoon while addressing the press at Kasese Central Police Station.

He explained since the year began, at least 116 cases have been recorded at police while unspecified number remains unreported.

The most reported cases according to him include child neglect, abandonment, kidnapping, murder and attempted murder among the spouses.

He used the same platform to confirm that two boys from Munkunyu Sub-county are in their custody on allegations of raping old women.

The suspects who are currently detained at Bwera Divisional Police Headquarters are believed to have developed a tendency of buying some alcoholic drinks to the old women as an alternative way of luring them into forced sexual activities.
