Police in Kasese to embark on community policing campaigns following increased cases of murder

The police in Kasese have revealed that they will embark on more community policing mechanisms in an attempt to curb the increasing cases of homicide in the district.

Addressing the press today morning at Kasese Central Police Station, the Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime revealed that last week alone, at least three cases of homicide were registered across the district.

On March 17, Mr. Sipiriano Kyakwairwe, 65, a retired Police Officer was arrested in Bwera Division for allegedly stabbing his wife, Night Masika to death in a domestic violence incident at their home in Kakone I Village, Bwera Sub-county.

On March 19, Samuel Muhindo Kinyaunyau, a resident of Mpondwe- Lhubiriha Town Council drowned in a gully.  

On March 21, Hassan Ngobi Kadogo, a resident of Nyakasojo Lower Cell, Nyakabingo III Ward in Bulembia Division of Kasese Municipality cut off the arms of her wife, Esther Mbambu following a domestic misunderstanding. 

The Regional Police Mouthpiece, who attributed the increasing cases of homicide to the community lawlessness, said they would intensify their policing mechanisms in a bid to reduce the rate at which people are losing their lives over petty issues.  

He called for cooperation and unity in families as they resolve issues related to domestic violence.
