Kasese leaders call for rehabilitation of Ibuga Primary School

BY OBED KULE KITHENDE

A heavy down pour accompanied with a strong windstorm has blown off a roof of a three classroom block at Ibuga Primary School in Ibuga village of Kitswamba sub-county, Busongora County North in Kasese district.

The incident that left a building which houses the primary three and four pupils and a staffroom affected happened last evening.

Mr. Julius Mwine, the Chairperson for the PTA at the institution told our reporter who had visited the scene that the said building which was constructed in 1960 had become too weak to withstand the strong winds.

He appealed to the government to come to their rescue before the first school term begins, adding that the school serves pupils from four villages including Burambira, Ibuga and Bigando.

Mr. James Bruno Nalondo, the Chairperson for the School Management Committee says they need over 150 iron sheets to roof the affected building.

He was skeptical that once the new school term starts on February 03 without making any repairs, they would opt for teaching the learners under the trees.

Mr. Girivazio Monday Bwambale, the Kasese District Vice Chairperson who also doubles as the Secretary for Social Services, who rushed to the scene with a team of Inspectors, sympathized with the parents and management committee of the affected institution of learning and assured them of the district’s support towards renovating the building before the begins.

The Kasese District Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Eriab Ntarwete told the press that he had directed the District Disaster Management Committee to visit the scene and compile a comprehensive report that would be shared with the Ministry of Education and Sports.  ENDS
