Eight residents were killed in a brutal attack on Mizizi A Village, Kyaterekera Sub County in Kagadi District last night.
Uganda Police Spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, confirmed the incident, describing it as a targeted assault by unidentified attackers around 9:00 PM that has left the local community devastated.
Rusoke identified the deceased as Boniface Rogers Nyirambe (41) Yokononia Isakara (76), Norah Kabuwere (64), Praise Muhindo (7), AnitaKabugho h (44), Kabagenyi Masika (3), Ferdinandi Baluku (13), and Olive Kabugo (13).
In response to the attack, a joint team from the Uganda Police and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) arrived at the scene. Two suspects, Obedi Baguma (33) and David Munyirambe (36), were “put out of action” during a confrontation with the authorities, according to Rusoke.
This tragedy adds to Uganda’s growing murder statistics. According to Uganda Police data, the country has recorded a concerning increase in violent crimes, including murders, in recent years.
The Annual Crime Report 2023 noted a 5% rise in homicide cases compared to the previous year, with over 4,000 cases reported nationwide.
Kagadi District, like several others in the western region, has seen higher rates of violent crime, attributed to various factors including local conflicts, land disputes, and economic pressures.
An additional eight villagers were injured in the attack and are receiving medical care at facilities in Kyaterekera. ENDS
