Expectant mothers in Kasese district have been encouraged to always utilize the yet to be elevated health centre IIs to health centre IIIs and other health facilities that offer antenatal services in order for them to deliver healthy babies.
Mr. Stephen Bagonza, the Kasese Assistant District Health Officer in-charge of Environmental Health says their department has observed that despite having a good number of health facilities across the district, 31% of the expectant mothers are still seeking services of the Traditional Birth Attendants.
Kasese District has 93 government health facilities including two health centre IVs, one General Hospital and 26 health centre IIIs while the remaining ones are health centre IIs but awaiting to be elevated to health centre IIIs a per government policy.
Bagonza appeals to the expectant to also prioritize the idea of seeking early medical checkups before they experience labour pains, advising the men to always get concerned whenever their wives get pregnant and in so doing, they will look after them accordingly.
He observes the need for the leaders to also help in sensitizing the people in their respective about the need to seek early medical attention.
