BY JOACKIM KULE

At least 2,450 people in Kasese district who applied for the positions of Enumerators in the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census today turned up for the oral interviews.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) recently advertised the positions of Enumerators and Supervisors where interested persons were asked to apply online using the bureau’s portal.

Mr. Joseph Singoma, the Kasese District Senior Planner who also doubles as the Coordinator for the Census Activities in the district says out of the 3,651 applicants, they only shortlisted 2,450 who today turned up for the interviews that were conducted at different stations across the district.

He, however, told Messiah Radio that were looking for only 1,500 people (Enumerators) who would traverse all villages across the district starting from May 10 – 19, this year to headcount  the citizens and their property. He also revealed that they would employ only 215 people as Parish Supervisors out of 1,050 people who applied and were interviewed yesterday.

The District Senior Planner has since implored the population to embrace the exercise in order to pay way for government to ascertain the total number of people for planning purposes.

He, on the other hand, warns the people against being lured by conmen who might demand money from them, pledging to give them jobs during the current recruitment process.
