A section of residents of Maliba Sub-county in Kasese District has explained that they had started testing the money from the suspected mineral that they are currently extracting from underground in their area.
Just in a spate of three months, Messiah Radio published a story highlighting that the residents had started making attempts to dig the suspected mineral from underground and ascertain if the gravel they were collecting could contain gold.
Today morning, our reporter visited the area to follow up the matter and interacted with the people at the mining site who testified that they had confirmed the presence of gold in the area.
Neckson Mupalya Mupika, the Site Supervisor, explained that they had so far extracted 1,000 sacks of which some have been sold while others are still in stock.
According to him, they are currently selling a sack of raw gravel at shillings 80,000 and 100,000 while one gram of processed gold is sold at shillings 450,000.
He asserted that in the near future, no resident would remain living a poor life because the money had come within their reach.
Mupika also noted that securing a piece of land at the mining center was at 3 millionshillings. The place is now being demanded by the people across the district. Mupika revealed that he was employing 300 people who are working as casual laborers at the site.
Zakayo Rumbughu, 28, who operates the machine that extracts the mineral from underground believes that in the near future, each household in the area would be in the money economy.
