Ven. Charles Mbusa officially assumes office as the new Kasese District Service Commission Chairperson

BY OBED KULE KITHENDE

Retired Venerable Charles Mbusa of South Rwenzori Diocese has today assumed office as the new Chairperson for Kasese District Service Commission.

Ven. Mbusa was sworn-in today morning with a call on him to tackle the corruption allegations within the commission.

He replaces Mr. Elijah Muhindo Kyetunda, who has been serving the position in an acting capacity.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the District Administration Block and was officiated over by the Chief Administrative Officer, Edward Kasagara amidst rumours of a court injunction aimed at blocking the event from taking place.

According to sources, a yet to be identified group of people had gone to the High Court in Fort-portal with an intention of blocking the function from taking place.

In his remarks, Mr. Kasagara, who congratulated the incoming commission Chairperson upon the assumption of office, reported that the previous commission had been allegedly associated with corruption especially with concerns of bribery and favoritism during the job recruitment process.

He, however, said the appointment of Ven. Charles Mbusa was seen as a step forward towards addressing issues related to corruption given his background as a Church Minister coupled with his commitment to fighting corruption.

He explained that so far, the commission has four members including Ven. Charles Mbusa as the Chairperson, Joshua Mugenyi as a member representing the people living with disabilities, Mrs. Rebecca Kabbyanga as a member representing women and Elijah Muhindo Kyetunda as a member representing the urban councils. The fifth person was yet to be availed to represent the minority groups of people.

He also said the constituted team would start doing work as soon as possible.

In his maiden speech shortly after being sworn-in as the Chairperson, Ven. Mbusa pledged to work according to the rules and regulations, fight corruption among others while giving out jobs to the applicants on merit.

The outgoing acting Chairperson, Elijah Muhindo Kyetunda, reported that the commission was corruption free, urging the community members to always report some conmen for redress.

The Kasese District Chairperson, Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi congratulated the team and asked them to shy away from acts of corruption and render positive services to the population.
