Two drivers arrested in Kasese

The Police in Rwenzori East Region (Kasese district) are holding two drivers on accounts of reckless driving and overloading passengers.

The suspects were arrested yesterday and are currently detained at Kasese Central Police Station.

SP Nelson Tumushime, the Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the development today morning and identified the first suspect as Abdul Kule, who is accused of overloading 09 passengers in a Toyota Wish Registration Number UBJ 244S headed for Bwera.

He also identified the second suspect as Asley Ajuna, who was arrested last evening after knocking a boda-boda rider near the Kasese Cobalt Company Limited along the Kasese – Kikorongo Highway. 

According to Tumushime, Ajuna was driving a vehicle Registration Number UBF 093W Primo by make-up and knocked one Albert Mbusa Syamukehere, 24, a boda-boda rider who was riding a motorcycle Registration Number UGC 086N.

The victim, who was rushed to Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Kasese town, lashed succumbed to the injuries he sustained during the incident.

Ajuna, who hails from Bushenyi – Ishaka Municipality in Bushenyi district, has been charged with reckless driving.

The Police Mouthpiece used the same platform to regret the rate at which cases of road accidents had increased in the region.

He, however, attributed the increasing cases of road accidents to lack of awareness by the drivers about the features established on the newly constructed roads within Kasese town.

To solve the challenge, SP Tumushime revealed plans by police to conduct sensitization meetings with the road users so that they are acquainted with necessary knowledge on how to use roads constructed in their various areas.

Mr. Aganatia Bwambale Lhuhalha, the Vice Chairperson for Kirembe Cell where the Late Syamukehere is expected to be buried tomorrow appealed to police to fully perform their roles of controlling the traffic on roads in an attempt to minimize the rate at which accidents are happening.
