The police in Kasese district have confirmed having in custody two male teenagers on allegations of stealing a pig weighing approximately 16 kilograms and valued at shillings 200,000.
The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson has identified the suspects as 16-year-old Simon Masereka and 15- year-old Ezra Bwambale, both residents of Kanyatsi Cell in Mairo-Ikumi Ward, Kinyamaseke Town Council who are currently detained at Kinyamaseke Police Station in Bwera Division.
The stolen pig reportedly belongs to Charles Agaba, a resident of Musomoro North Cell, also in Kinyamaseke Town Council.
According to SP Tumushime, the arrest of the suspects followed a complaint filed by Mr. Agaba at the Local Council I Office that later alerted police.
The Regional Police Mouthpiece told the press that a highly trained police dog was deployed to the scene of crime to assist in the investigations, ultimately leading to the arrest of the two male teenagers.
In a related development, SP Tumushime said on March 7, 2025, the police in Kizungu, Kasese Municipality, arrested a suspect identified as Moses Muhindo on allegations of stealing more than 20 goats from Umoja Cell in Nyamwamba Division.
Tumushime has since urged the residents to remain vigilant amidst a rise in livestock theft cases in the region. He appealed to the public to secure their animals and promptly report any suspicious activity especially as the Easter festive season approaches.
