Suspected explosive device detonated in Kasese

A joint security team of the UPDF and Police has detonated a suspected explosive device that was discovered today morning along the Kasese – Fort-portal High at Rukooki in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality.

One of the residents in the area who preferred anonymity says the device was sighted in the area three days ago. According to her, having observed that it looked strange to them, they had to inform the area Local Council I Chairperson that they had seen a strange device in a trench along the road.

Mr. Felix Saad Kyomya, the L. C I General Secretary for Rukooki Cell, an area where the strange device was sighted from told the press that after receiving information from the residents, they immediately alerted police that swung into action to cordon the scene.

Sources say that police also alerted UPDF from the 222 Mountain Brigade that immediately responded and detonated the device.

Mr. Martin Safari, the L. C III Chairperson for the Central Division in Kasese Municipality, who also rushed to the scene and confirmed the incident, described it as regrettable.

According to him, lots of lives could have been lost if the device exploded in the hands of civilians, hailing security for its quick response towards saving the lives of innocent people.

He implored the people to continue being vigilant and security conscious through reporting any strange devices that might be sighted in their respective communities.

      now as we continue being more security unprotected, we then as all our people in communities to watch their Neighbours.
