Reports reaching Messiah Radio News Desk this evening indicate that a windstorm has ravaged several parts of the district deroofing several houses.
Aganatia Lhuhalha the vice chairperson Wase-Wanaba cell in Kirembe Ward of Central Division, Kasese Municipality says two permanent houses in the area have had their roofs blown away. The affected houses belong to Ivan Ndanda and Geofred Muhindo.
The strong wind also destroyed some structures at Greenbelt Primary School where four learners were reportedly injured and rushed to Mt St Mary’s Hospital in Kasese town.
In Kyarumba Sub County, Kyamabona Roman Catholic Church and a commercial building in Kibwekyamasi belonging to Julius Kakese have also been reportedly destroyed.
Sebastiano Kyongoleko, a catechist in Kyarumba said he was not sure how many families had been affected by press time.
Meanwhile in Mahango sub-county, a commercial building housing several businesses at Kabiriti trading centre in Lhuhiri Parish has also been ravaged.
Constantine Musema the chairperson Kabiriti trading centre says persons operating businesses at the house belonging to Amon Mulimaposo are now grappling with how to relocate some of their merchandise.
St Thomas Kibiri Church of Uganda in Mahango has also had its roof partially blown off following the storm.
In August this year, areas including Kahedero fishing village, Kabirizi, Mahango, Kyalhumba, Katooke, Bulembia Division and other parts of Busongora County North have registered regrettable incidents caused by torrential rains and storm winds.
The Ministry of Water and Environment indicated that this current season will be disastrous, calling on the population not to take shelter under electric poles and trees while cautioning people against moving in foggy conditions. ENDS
