Social media users have been cautioned against disseminating content that is full of hate speech.
The advice was sounded last evening by Mr. Alfred Baluku, the Assistant RDC for Bunyangabu District and Hon. Geoffrey Baraka Kanyonyi, the Spokesperson for the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu while addressing a group of Tiktokers who had gathered to open their office in Kikonzo Cell in the Railway Ward, Central Division in Kasese Municipality under their umbrella body, the World Wide Bakonzo United Tiktokers.
They advised the social media users to utilize the platform as a communication tool in creating social media capital and development.
On September 22, 2025, World Wide Tiktokers started their group, stemming from an online fundraising drive that was carried out to solicit funds for a 23-year-old Dorothy Mbambu, a resident of Kakindo village in Kitholhu Sub-county, Kasese District who was looking for over shillings 10 million to undergo a specialized eye surgery at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
Mr. Baluku and Hon. Kanyonyi who hailed the Tiktokers for their charity initiative, advised them to desist from using the social media platforms in a way that contravenes the laws of Uganda.
They also asked the Tiktokers to use their organization and the media to influence social capital and think of tapping more developmental opportunities from the government.
Ms. Evelyne Kabugho alias Lady Eve,the group’sVice Chairperson and Ms Mebrace Musoki commonly Known as Mama Kash highlighted that standing in solidarity with the people in difficult situations like Mbambu was the initial target.
They called for cohesion, respect and self esteem as they look forward to realizing their progress.
Dorothy Mbambu used the same podium to express her gratitude to the Tiktokers who saved her from the eye cancer after undergoing the surgery.
Lay reader Edson BwambaleKirusu attached to St. Philips Galilaya Church of Uganda, challenged the social media users not to tolerate any divisionary hate speeches that might tear them apart.
