The Kasese Deputy Resident District Commissioner in-charge of Bukonzo County has revealed that the security situation in the district remains normal and calm as opposed to the information that is in circulation alleging that there are some security threats among the communities in Bukonzo County West.
Lt (Rtd) Maate Magwara was responding to claims by a section of community members indicating that there were so fearful of being attacked by rebels that the RDC refuted the information, saying they had deployed security operatives to man the borders.
According to Magwara, last night he received more than 10 phone calls from the people who expressed fear that their communities could have been attacked by rebels, something he described as a rumour.
Speaking to Messiah Radio today morning, Magwara assured the residents to stay calm and continue carrying out their normal and economic activities for the wellbeing of their families.
He, however, called on the people to be vigilant through reporting unfamiliar people to the relevant security organs in their localities.
The Deputy RDC emphasized the need for the local population to make use of their leaders in case they would like to know issues related to security.
