Yesterday, a delegation of the District Officials thronged Katanda II Village to commission the water project and officiate at the groundbreaking for its extension to other communities in the Sub-county.

The residents in a jovial mood explained that the progress of the project helps them in addressing health and hygiene concerns among themselves in the area.

The residents’ applause to the government followed the completion of Kabingo Water Gravity Flow Scheme that was commissioned yesterday and officially handed over to the community for utilization.

Kabingo Gravity Flow Scheme Project, which was constructed at a tune of shillings 645 million for the first phase, has been implemented using the funds from the Central Government meant for water extension in the district every year.

While at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Katanda II village of Kitsutsu Parish where the commissioning ceremony took place, Ruth Biira Kugonza, 34, like other residents and their leaders in the area appreciated the government’s move of extending water to the area for domestic purposes.

Kugonza explained that before the project, they were traveling long distances and depended on flowing rivers which would pose health risks to them as well as encouraging social evils to occur.

The Kasese District Water Engineer, Patrick Ndungo Syaipuma, revealed that the government was committed to ensuring the area accesses adequate water through rehabilitating some sources, extending Nyamughasana and Bwera Water Projects to the area.

Mr. Mustafa Kikusa, the Kasese District Principal Assistant Secretary in the CAO’s office, emphasized the need for the people to ensure having good latrines at their homesteads.

The Kasese District Chairperson, Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi, told the people to appreciate the government for what it has established in their constituency, pledging more as the new political term begins.

During the commissioning, the Kasese Assistant RDC, Justine Muhindo Mutabazi, also officiated at the ground breaking of the water extension phase II, which will consume shillings 240 million after accommodating 20 tap stands.
