The police in Kasese district have threatened to start impounding all school vans that are in poor mechanical conditions.
The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, argues that they have realized that some schools always transport learners in vehicles that are not recommended to surface on the roads due to their mechanical conditions.
The Regional Police Mouthpiece, who was addressing the press yesterday at Kasese Central Police Station, noted that as schools reopen for third term, they have deployed along the roads to crackdown on such vehicles and those that would be found overloading the learners.
He also revealed that they would start carrying out operations against the defaulters of the Express Penalty Tickets and those driving without valid permits.
Tumushime used the same platform to appeal to the road users including pedestrians to learn how to use the exiting roads in an attempt to avoid accidents.
According to him, within last week, at least four cases of road accidents were registered with one being fatal while others were minor.
