Police in Kasese successfully recover stolen coffee

The police in greater Kyarumba Sub-county, Bukonzo County East in Kasese district have recovered five sacks of green coffee cherries that had been stolen from a plantation in Kihungamiyagha village.

It is alleged that last night, a group of people stormed a coffee plantation belonging to Mr. Philemon Kabayirwe, a resident of the same area and harvested unripe cherries.

P.C Collins Wandera, an officer attached to Kyarumba Police Station confirmed the incident to Messiah Radio, stressing that after receiving a report from the victim, the acted swiftly, made an operation and landed on five sacks of green coffee cherries at a building belonging to one of the residents.

According to him, the occupants of the building where the unripe coffee cherries were found took off when they saw police but they managed to apprehend one of the suspects.

He warned the community members against the practices of stealing coffee and picking unripe cherries, vowing to arrest the culprits so that they face the law.

The incident comes at a time when the Kasese District Agricultural Office is carrying out sensitization meetings against the practice of harvesting unripe coffee cherries.
