BY OBED KULE KITHENDE

The police in the Rwenzori East Region, Kasese district are currently undergoing a refresher training on Public Order Management as part of their preparation for the forthcoming 2026 General Elections.

The training which started today targets over 200 police officers across the four policing divisions in Kasese district.

It is also aimed at imparting knowledge on how to control disorders, political conflicts, protests and crowds that might emerge during elections.

The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, says the officers are not being trained to beat the people and violate their rights.

According to him, the officers will instead be trained on how to relate with the public and ensuring peaceful elections come 2026.

He stresses that during the training, the officers will also conduct practicals, asking the members of the public not to worry whenever they see them doing unusual activities in the training fields.

He called for the cooperation among the community members during the course of the training and also the electioneering process.

He asserts that working with the members of the public promotes legitimacy, public trust, safety and effective policing as maintaining peace and unity among the different communities.
