Security in Kasese today morning deployed heavily at the Booma Grounds in Kasese town to deter the members of the Forum for Democratic Change from delivering their support to the land victims and accessing the premises.
SP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson told the press today morning that the FDC members had not been cleared to go on with their charity walk aimed at collecting and donating food and other items to the people encamped at the Booma Grounds.
He explained that the deployment was also meant to keep law and order among the citizens at the camp.
In response to the deployment, the Kasese District FDC Chairperson, Mr. Ronald Bwambale Kabuku said they would go ahead with their planned activity despite a warning by police to the party members.
He revealed that some people had already embraced the idea of donating items to the land victims while the food stuffs had also reached their store.
Mr. Livingstone Kato Zunguka, a member of the National Unity Platform who joined the team that went to Mawa Market to collect items, sympathized with the people he said had suffered the effects of land conflicts.
Mr. Costa Kamalha, a resident of Maliba sub-county is one of the people who had already handed vegetables to the FDC leadership for delivery to the intended beneficiaries.
